People frequently ask how The Dove Foundation came into being. The story is a testimony of how God can multiply the efforts of a few people into a movement.
In 1990 I was invited to join a group of parents to review movies before our children watched them. Within a short time we had identified over 600 “family approved” movies and the list was being requested by thousands of families around the country. And so The Dove Foundation, a nonprofit family advocacy organization, was born. Our mission is to encourage and promote the creation, production, distribution and consumption of wholesome family entertainment.
The Dove FAMILY APPROVED Seal is recognized as the trusted symbol of family entertainment. It has been called “the Good Housekeeping Seal for family movies.” Dove now has over 9,000 movie reviews in our database at www.dove.org. Over 6,000 titles have been awarded a Dove Seal. Each review includes an age-appropriate designation, suitable for ALL AGES, or recommended for those over AGE 12. We added FAITH FRIENDLY and FAITH BASED Seals to identify films with religious themes.
The Dove staff has trusted relationships with top executives in most Hollywood Studios and hundreds of independent filmmakers. They frequently rely on the Dove Seal to help reach the faith and family audience. Sometimes movies are even edited to meet Dove Standards.
As a nonprofit “keeper of the Seal”, Dove relies heavily on people to assist us in three ways:
- By subscribing to our email newsletter “Hollywood Uplink” you can stay informed of the latest product offerings and news relating to Faith & Family Friendly entertainment.
- You can help build the Dove Community by following us on Facebook & Twitter and then comment and share with your friends so we can extend our reach.
- We would also ask you to further the cause of Family Values in Entertainment by making a tax-deductible donation to The Dove Foundation. Your financial support sends a loud message to Hollywood that you want to see them produce more wholesome entertainment.
By increasing our community of concerned families, we increase our influence in Hollywood.
Please stand with us as we make our case before the studio executives that Family Friendly Entertainment is a wise investment! Your involvement at any level is greatly appreciated.
