Dove Foundation Entertainment Survey FAQ

I saw your phone number on my caller ID.  What were you calling about?

Currently we are contacting American families to talk about family-friendly entertainment and how people can influence film makers to produce more wholesome movies.  Also, we are asking people their thoughts on the MPAA movie rating system, and if they feel helpless to change what is being produced.  We plan on sharing the information we collect with studio executives and also have posted some of the results of our phone survey on our web site.

I’m on the National Do Not Call List.  Why are you calling me?

Dove is a charity and as such is exempt from the Do Not Call legislation.

Why did you ask if I have young children or grandchildren in the house?

This is a qualifying question we are using to assist us in reaching our target audience of parents & grandparents with kids.  We feel that families with children, especially younger kids will be very interested in what Dove is calling about.

Who is The Dove Foundation?

Dove is a non profit 501(c)3 charitable organization whose mission is to encourage and promote the creation, production, distribution and consumption of wholesome family entertainment

What is the Survey about?

This survey helps Dove represent the desires of the public to Hollywood filmmakers. Many surveys in the past have been conducted by the entertainment industry itself, which produces skewed results. For example, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), an organization funded by the major film studios, has continuously maintained that 78% of the movie-going public is "satisfied" with the movie ratings system. The MPAA survey results are obviously designed to protect their position in the industry. The Dove survey, on the other hand, is the largest poll ever taken that measures the public's opinion about the state of entertainment content.  As such, the results will be unquestionably accurate and without prejudice.

What are you going to do with the results of the survey?

Never before has an opinion poll been taken of such a large number of people. No one will be able to argue with the results once we reach a critical mass of responses.  We will present our findings to the studio heads, and to the national media. This is sure to make headlines in the news. That is why your participation is so important!

Is the survey taken by a live person?

Yes, the survey is being conducted by a live person.  Meaning that the recipient of the call is speaking to a person who is then selecting pre-recorded responses to answer the recipient’s questions.

I answered some of your questions and then I was disconnected.  What happened?

A couple of things could have happened.  One, the volunteer could have selected the wrong button and accidentally disconnected you.  Or, there could have been a glitch in the automated phone system that inadvertently ended the call.  We certainly apologize to anyone who had this happen.  It is not our intent to hang up on anyone.

How can I remove my phone number from your call list?

Simply email us your phone number and your request to have it removed from our call list and we will take care of it right away. Click Here to Email Us...

I didn’t get a chance to take the survey.  Can I take it online?

Yes, just log onto www.dove.org and click on “Take our Online Entertainment Survey”.

How can I help the Dove Foundation with its mission of promoting family-friendly entertainment?

There are several ways you can help.

1. Partner with us by supporting Dove financially. The Dove Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and as such relies on the generosity of people like you to keep us in the battle for decency in entertainment. All contributions are tax-deductible.

2. Tell your friends and neighbors about our efforts to move Hollywood in a family-friendly direction. The more aware people become about the importance of their entertainment choices, the better chance we have of impacting entertainment industry decisions at the highest level.

3. As an alternative to protests and boycotts, try something positive. Offer an encouraging word to your local video store or theater owner when you see a Dove-approved movie. They are in business to win the approval of as many people as possible. The family audience is becoming more relevant to the entertainment industry. The recent success of many Dove-approved movies demonstrates your desire to be entertained, but without graphic sex, violence and foul language. A positive comment will go a long way to reinforce what they are beginning to see at the box office.

4. Complete the online survey if you have not yet done so.   Your answers will be part of the message we send to Hollywood.

5. Patronize retailers who sell quality family entertainment including Dove sponsors, to demonstrate to Hollywood producers that there is a strong market for family friendly entertainment.
