An adaptation of Florence Biros' classic children's novel, "Dog Jack" is a Civil War tale about 14-year-old Jed, a slave who escapes with loyal dog Jack to join the Union Army. Hounded by runaway-slave trackers, Jed and Jack receive the reluctant help of a troubled minister and finally reach the army of the North. When he enlists, however, Jed finds that he must confront not just the forces of the Confederacy but also the prejudices of his fellow soldiers. Jed's trials continue in a dramatic climax, when the young soldier faces his former master on the battlefield and must grapple with hard, surprising truths about his own past. "Dog Jack" is inspired by the historical true-life adventures of the beloved canine mascot of the Pennsylvania 102nd, who was so prized by his regiment for his skills in battle that he was twice exchanged for Confederate prisoners of war.

He is the son of an insurance salesman, and doesn't have the connections or the grades to make his dreams come true. Aaron's principal, his school counselor, and his family all insist on a more "reasonable" goal.
But during one of Aaron's mock trials, Judge Andrews recognizes Aaron's remarkable talent and dedication. He offers Aaron an opportunity: win a chess tournament and Judge Andrews will secure admission to a pre-law program for Aaron
Unfortunately, Aaron doesn't even know how to play chess. He starts learning from a book and by playing games on his laptop. Eventually he is invited to play a game arranged by Judge Andrews. If Aaron can win the game, he becomes a member of an elite chess club: the Arcanum. Aaron is shocked to learn that his opponent is his school principal.
Aaron wins, and as he continues to learn the game he discovers he has talent. He also discovers he needs a teacher to help him. Sadly, Aaron doesn't have the money to hire a teacher, and his parents won't help. After unsuccessfully searching for a job, Aaron finds a teacher who is willing to help him in exchange for Aaron's work.
His new teacher, Ben, enrolls Aaron in his first chess tournament. Aaron fails miserably. Aaron considers giving up. Maybe he shouldn't reach so far. Maybe he was born to be just like his father, and his family. Maybe he should take the job at the factory.
But Judge Andrews encourages Aaron, and reveals that Aaron's own father is an accomplished grandmaster. Aaron confronts his father and finds the truth. Finally, Aaron's own father coaches him before the national tournament and Aaron has his opportunity to win a game, and win his destiny.

Great Stories from the Bible: Vol. 1 |

Seeing: A man blind from birth is miraculously healed by Jesus Christ. With his sight restored, he not only sees his Healer, but also His divinity—whereas others, despite their perfectly good eyesight, seemingly cannot see Jesus for who He really is. This is based on John 9.
Touch: One day, as Jesus was moving through a crowd of people, He suddenly observed, “Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue [power] is gone out of me.” Touch was an act of faith. A woman with an issue of blood had touched His garment, believing that by doing so she would be healed. And she was.
The Good Samaritan: In this parable shared by Jesus, a traveler fell among thieves and was left half dead. While others passed him by, a Samaritan—a known Jewish enemy—saved the man from certain death by caring for him. “Go and do thou likewise” was then Christ’s charge—for all of us.
Akedah (The Binding): After giving Abraham a promise of endless posterity through which all the world would be blessed, God gave the prophet a great test: a commandment to sacrifice his beloved and only son, Isaac. This event is known by many throughout the world as the Akedah—the Hebrew word for binding.
Elijah & the Widow of Zarephath: After three years of famine, a faithful widow and her young son were down to their last “handful of meal ... and a little oil,” when the prophet Elijah approached her, imploring, “Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.” Experience the widow’s trial of faith as told in 1 Kings.
The Sisters of Bethany: Little is known of Mary or Martha The Bible mentions them thrice: the raising of their brother Lazarus (John 11); Mary anointing the feet of Jesus (John 12:1–8); and “choosing that good part” (Luke 10:38–42). But those three incidents are fundamental in Christ’s ministry and in his teaching.
