The book opens with Jesus joining Ricky, age 9, and his sister, Dee Dee, age 5 at their breakfast table. The children are especially excited to learn that the angel, Gabriel, will be their special guide. Ricky and Dee Dee first meet Gabriel as he is informing Mary that she is truly blessed and the Lord is with her. The children learn that Jesus came from heaven to earth, to be born completely human and yet still remain completely God – to save mankind. Gabriel brings the children to see the key events in Jesus’ life including as an infant born in a manger; as a youth teaching religious leaders in the Temple; being brought into the wilderness and tempted by Satan; gathering His disciples; performing miracles; and His persecution by the religious leaders.

The book ends with Judas leaving the Last Supper to betray Jesus with the children trying to stop him – leaving the reader in suspense as to Jesus’ fate.

Last Martin, The (Novel)

5/1/2012

Quality Rating: 1-5 Doves Dove "Family-Approved" - Recommended for ages 12 and over
Thirteen year-old Martin Boyle, the most fearful hypochondriac born into a family of worriers, doesn’t want to visit the family cemetery. Truth is, none of the Boyles are thrilled about the annual trip to visit their war dead. It shames Mr. Boyle to think of his once courageous family line, and Mrs. Boyle is certain the greenish moss growing on the headstones carries disease. But after strict no-touch warnings from Mrs. Boyle (and an anti-bacterial scrub down), Martin ventures into the private cemetery for a grim remembrance. He’s surrounded by stones that bear his name. Martin, the Boyle family name, has been given to the firstborn male in each Boyle household for centuries. While his father offers a speech honoring Martins who have gone before, Martin wanders among his ancestors. The writing on the old headstones is hardly legible, and he scratches at birth and death dates with a stick. His analytical mind gravitates toward the numbers, and his stomach sinks. The pattern is clear: Martin 1770-1819. Martin 1819-1835. Martin 1835-1899. Martin 1899-1956. Martin 1956-1996. There’s always a Martin. Only one Martin. Martin panics. Not because he was born in 1996—that only fits—but because his uncle and aunt are expecting their first child, a boy, in three months. Tradition dictates they will name him Martin. He’s seen the graveyard. He has proof of the curse. When the next Martin is born, he’ll die. Martin’s parents believe the cemetery pattern is a coincidence, and a sign that their son needs professional help. It’s a belief that’s about to get stronger because their son, with the help of a homeless boy named Poole, is about to make his first decision of consequence: with twelve weeks until the baby’s arrival and no time to waste, Martin chooses to live. Little does he know that the key to his survival—the cornerstone of the curse—lies embedded beneath two hundred years of history, in an inscription that dooms the entire Boyle family line.

How to Stand for your Marriage (Book)

12/11/2011

Quality Rating: 1-5 Doves Dove "Family-Approved" - Recommended for ages 12 and over
"Stand For Your Marriage" reminds people of God’s intention for marriage. Marriage vows are a promise “until death do we part.” Scripture teaches us “what God has joined together let no man put asunder.” So why has marriage become disposable? It certainly isn’t the will of God and if it isn’t of God it must be the will of Satan. Ess-Jee Rautenbach stands firm on God’s purpose and offers hope for floundering marriages. All marriages go through rocky periods. However, that does not mean we are released from our vows, responsibilities or commitments. Divorce does not hurt only the husband and wife but their children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, and friends. Rautenbach reminds us that we have a great authority to turn to when our marriage falls apart. Instead we turn to friends, family and the therapist for their advice and comfort.

Yeah Yeah Out Loud Kit (Book)

1/22/2010

Quality Rating: 1-5 Doves Dove "Family-Approved" - Suitable for any age
YYOL® is a self-esteem kit that can successfully be used by educators in classrooms AND by parents one on one with their children to empower them to discover their inner “cheer” leader (a “voice” that can help guide them from an early age and remain through tough times growing up). The magic is in hearing the YEAH YEAH cheer from your kids!

Hur-Ray© and Kiddazy® are puppets that can play in all environments. In the YYOL® picture book (translated to German and Spanish) Hur-Ray© (notice the YYOL® face) encourages the flower to grow, which it does and then in thanks, acknowledges Hur-Ray’s© cheers by encouraging others (no narcissism here)! At that point, the flower becomes Kiddazy® (who also now has a YYOL® face).

YEAH YEAH is a mantra to embrace; something a little easier than “I think I can, I’ll try my best”….and YYOL® is a new text acronym meaning: “way to go, you did it all by yourself”! Instilling this will help give them the confidence to say “no” to the variety of obstacles they could face as they mature (bullying, substance abuse) and help enhance self-confidence!

As a parent, by telling the story and incorporating the YEAH YEAH cheer at appropriate times, your child will begin to be their own best cheerleader knowing when the going gets tough, they can find it inside! YEAH YEAH.

As an educator, you can introduce the story in many educational areas, sending the YYOL® message and fulfilling an educational requirement at the same time with coordinating worksheets. Math, science, reading, religious aspects….it’s all up to you.

There are FREE YYOL® activities that teach children how to be proud of who they are; learning how to introduce themselves; experiencing and putting a face to emotions; as well as coloring pages to help solidify the theme on a daily basis.

Classroom “aides” include stickers (come with the educator’s kit). Also available is a YYOL® poster to which you can add classmates names when nominated for being YYOL®.

Become a YYOL® community and find YOUR inner “cheer” leader. Easy and fun….for you the parent/educator and the children! YEAH YEAH

Pro Wrestling Kids Style (Book)

Quality Rating: 1-5 Doves Dove "Family-Approved" - Suitable for any age
In 1984, a new wrestling league was formed. "The Kids' Quad Cities Pro Wrestling Show" started out as fun and games, but soon grew into thousands of living rooms all across the country through Cable TV and was known as NWF Wrestling. And as a result, the National Wrestling Federation took Kids' Pro Wrestling to a whole new level.

For five years, the NWF was managed and promoted by a young and ambitious kid named Shawn Crossen, or as Crusher Crossen in the ring. In 1984, Shawn was just 14 years old, but by 1986 he was promoting matches at live venues where hundreds would pay admission to see the shows all across the Twin Cities metro area from school gymnasiums to local armory halls.

But going from bed mattresses in a basement to live public cards in a professionally-sized wrestling ring did not come easy - it took years to accomplish with many obstacles along the way, yet somehow they managed to do the impossible. And all the while, this league had positive community support with several newspaper articles written about them, long before any “backyard” type wrestling leagues ever existed.

The wrestling show they produced on Cable TV was a popular attraction to kids and adults alike, and seemed as though it would last forever. But an outside force would interfere, causing the dismantling of what once was a milestone in the history of professional wrestling.

It all started with a 1937 radio serial, created by Glanville and Elizabeth Heish, the kind they don't make anymore. Funny, though, how this particular one has endured, for here we are 70 years later, with our tribute to "The Cinnamon Bear", a true classic that has a special place in the hearts of those who live in the Northwest, where perhaps it is best remembered. Now it has been our pleasure to translate audio into visual, via this children's book. Though this is a necessarily condensed adaption, we feel it captured the spirit and spark of the original series.

"A Lesson in Red Beans and Rice" is a contemporary high concept novel about life's do's and don'ts as one struggles to make transition from being a child to becoming an adult. It boldly addresses the tough decision each human being has to make as to when and how the invisible line separating the child from woman or man is crossed. Written in form of fiction, the book opens with a conversation between two best friends two weeks before their Junior Prom. The friends, two sixteen-year-girls, have shared almost every first experience in their lives. These include: their first birthday party at the nursery they attended; first Christmas in their yards next door to one another and first grammar, middle and high school days. Also, they attended their same church services and took their first religious training and oaths together. However, as the story begins, there's a sharp division between them on if, when and how another first event should be shared.
