In the fast-paced action thriller, Dwayne Johnson stars as a father whose teenage son is wrongly accused of a drug distribution crime and is looking at a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years. Desperate and determined to rescue his son at all costs, he makes a deal with the U.S. attorney to work as an undercover informant and infiltrate a drug cartel on a dangerous mission -- risking everything, including his family and his own life.
This film picks up in the action department as it goes. Slow spots are scattered around in the beginning and yet it also contains an exciting chase sequence in the first part of the movie, when a young man that receives drugs in the mail on behalf of a friend is pursued by police. Enter the young man's father, John Matthews (Dwayne Johnson), who sets out to strike a bargain with the U.S. attorney and that bargain is to, at great personal risk, become an informant and turn in other drug dealers so that the son, who previously had no record, can get his prison time reduced from ten years to six months or less.
Surprisingly, there is little blood in the film in comparison to the scenes of violence. People are shot but not much blood is seen. There are a few skirmishes and blood on a character's nose and mouth but not much more. Still, there is enough violence to warrant a rating of three in our content listing and also strong language. These two issues, along with the drug scenes, prevent us from awarding our Dove "Family-Approved" Seal to the film. It's too bad because the sacrifice of the father for his son is a powerful theme.
