Synopsis:
Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor and businessman. Nicknamed “The Wizard of Menlo Park” by a newspaper reporter, Edison is credited with creating both the first industrial research lab and the electric light bulb. The research lab was the first institution set up with the purpose of producing constant innovation and technological improvement. But he didn’t stop there! Edison is considered to be one of the most innovative inventors in history, holding 1,097 US patents in his name.
Dove Worldview:
At first glance I thought, “Oh, Boy”. I anticipated this movie to be poor quality and one to endure. But, I was wonderfully surprised and reminded again not to judge a “book” by its cover! “The Animated Hero Classics: Thomas Edison” was not only captivating, but educational. The cartooning is kind of basic, but the story was written so well that it trumps the fact that it isn’t a multi-million dollar production.
There is one character in “Thomas Edison” that smokes a cigar every time he is shown, but the emphasis is instead on his attitude. The attributes of perseverance and humility are taught through this telling of Thomas Edison’s life. “The Animated Hero Classics: Thomas Edison” would be a fantastic edition to any school collection. Dove happily approves this DVD as family friendly.
