This movie contains very unique humor. It basically uses exaggeration to make a point about how some TV evangelists milk people for money and how that some well-meaning people give to the point of hurting themselves to support a TV ministry. The exaggeration also includes a TV minister saying, “Jeeeessssus is here” instead of just saying, “Jesus.”
Pastor Shepherd is a freeze-dried pet salesman and although the freeze dried dog he carries with him may not look totally realistic, the idea may turn some viewers off. He intends to jump from internet evangelism to TV. In one scene a TV minister sells a book titled “How to get rich by sending me money” and it is free, but the shipping cost is $81.64. One scene I enjoyed takes place when Pastor Shepherd’s mother is placed in the hospital and he enters to see a patient all bandaged up and thinks it’s his mother, only to hear a nurse say, “Sir, she’s over here” and she is resting peacefully in the other bed in the room, thankfully without bandages.
There are a couple of utterances of strong language which means we are awarding our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal to the movie for ages twelve plus rather than all ages. Its sophisticated themes would be a bit much for very young viewers at any rate. If you want to watch a minister who is very unique, “Pastor Shepherd” just might be for you.
