The Treasure of Painted Forest

It is the last week of summer vacation and the beginning of an amazing adventure for a group of kids challenged by a rival gang of bullies for control of the forest. After stumbling upon an ancient myth about a treasure entombed inside a sacred Indian burial mound, the kids discover two, not-so-smart thieves are intent on finding the gold for themselves. Along the way, the caretaker of the forest, a wise Native American man, teaches the kids a few lessons about themselves, how to deal with bullies and how to appreciate the real treasures around them. In the end, when one of them is injured, the kids realize that fighting with each other is not worth it. It is clear that the forest in not meant to be owned or controlled by anyone. It was just like the wise Native American man told them: "The earth was meant to be shared by all living creatures, even bullies."

Dove Review

As a movie “The Treasure of the Painted Forest” has it good points and bad points. Let me mention the positive points first, as it takes a look at friendships, fairness, good sportsmanship and nature and in addition by the end everything turns out okay. Then there is the other side of this movie which includes the name calling and disrespectful attitudes of others and, unfortunately, it becomes a mainstay of the movie. I think that the movie makers tried to make this a slapstick kind of comedy but it falls short in so many ways, at least for me. So with this warning being given, it has enough good points to still be awarded the Dove “Family-Approved” 12+ Seal.
