Dove Review

This is an excellent biblical drama. It is nicely filmed with a background of beautiful scenery and the performances are solid. The story also stays very close to the biblical story of Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi, with some scenes filled in here and there in a way in which they could have logically occurred.

After Naomi’s two sons die, one of them being Ruth’s husband, Naomi is intent on leaving Moab and moving back to Bethlehem, her native land. Naomi’s other daughter-in-law is content to move on but Ruth cannot bring herself to let Naomi set out alone on the journey. She thinks of her as her own mother, not just a mother-in-law. She follows her, telling her that her people will be her people and her God will be her God.

Ruth works in the fields, gleaning what she can for Naomi and herself. When the owner of the field, Boaz, meets her, he is impressed with her and falls in love with her. This is an amazing story of love and sacrifice and also is a biblical type of the story of a redeemer. It is well made and we gladly award this film our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal. It is for all ages although some very young children might not be able to follow all the details of the story. This one is not to be missed.
