Christmas Mountain: The Story of a Cowboy Angel

A timeless classic holiday film about the true meaning of the Christmas spirit. Starring Slim Pickens, in one of his final roles and Mark Miller of Savannah Smiles, the film was originally produced and released in 1981. The original 16 MM master film was lost for many years. Now it's been digitally remastered into the latest DVD format.

A cowboy comes to a town at Christmas time. He eats at a café but is unable to pay for his meal, so the owner throws him in jail. The town wants to alleviate their guilt over a Mexican family, who has a pregnant woman with them, and who lives on top of a mountain called Christmas Mountain. They bail out the cowboy and tell him to bring some old clothes and food to them. While there, the young boy of the family feels sorry for him and prays that God will send him some help. It comes in the form of an old friend of his who died years ago. He tells him that he is not exactly living a proper life but he has a chance to turn things around, first by telling the townsfolk that their so-called charity toward the Mexicans is not enough.

Dove Review

Here is an oldie but goodie as they say and they don’t make movies like this anymore. With some well known actors from the past, it portrays the true meaning of Christmas. Although the setting is the old west, the reality of it shows that times have not changed much when it comes to the treatment of people of different nationalities. In today’s world there are still those who want to make a difference just like the people of this small western town, but the way they go about helping is not always the right way to do it.

This is a charming film that teaches valuable lessons about treating other people with respect, being charitable and kind and at all times, not just at Christmas. “Christmas Mountain: The Story of a Cowboy Angel” is awarded our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal. Merry, merry!
