Kevin James is funny as Paul Blart, the mall cop who takes his job very seriously. He is courteous and helpful but has no problem in flagging down a senior citizen who is going a bit too fast in the mall in his motorized wheelchair. He also tries to look “sexy” when he sends a video to a dating website with him doing simple chores and riding his auto cycle. The movie has its funny moments to be sure. It also features a bit of romance as Paul has his eyes on a woman named Amy, who is very sweet and works at a kiosk in the mall, selling hair pieces. Paul even buys one which is humorous itself.
Blart is forced to go above and beyond the call of duty when a group of rebels take over the mall with guns and motion sensors in an attempt to get some fast money and flee the country. Unfortunately for family viewers, the film features a curse in which one character tells another to “Go to H___” and Dove never awards our Seal to a film which includes this curse. It’s too bad. Had it not been for that, the film would have been awarded the Dove Seal for ages twelve and above. It is a near-miss.
