A Gunfighters Pledge

When a gunman haunted by the past accidentally kills a stranger in a chaotic bar shootout, he unexpectedly begins a journey that will lead him on the path to healing and redemption in “A Gunfighter’ Pledge,” a Hallmark Channel Original Movie premiering Saturday, July 5 (9/8c). Luke Perry (“John From Cincinnati”), C. Thomas Howell (“24”) and Francesco Quinn (“Platoon”) go head-to-head in the classic Good Vs Evil Western.

Following a daring escape from a pair of marshals, Tate (Kim Coates, “Black Hawk Down”), a vicious outlaw, murders the wife and child of Matt Austin (Perry), the sheriff who originally caught him and killed his brother. When Austin tracks Tate to a lawless saloon and accidentally kills an innocent man in the shootout, Austin pledges to the dying man that he will return his body to his sister, Amaya (Jaclyn DeSantis, “Windfall”), at their family farm. Once there, he is forced to put his quest for vengeance on hold when he becomes embroiled in a dispute between Amaya and Horn (Howell), a businessman and landowner who has bought the sheriff (Quinn), and is trying to force Amaya to sell him her land by any means necessary. Unbeknownst to Austin, Horn has hired Tate as part of a posse tasked with removing Amaya from her land, leading to an inevitable showdown with lives and livelihoods hanging in the balance.

Dove Review

This is a gritty western. Sheriff Matt Austin takes on some bad guys and pays a terrible price in doing so. One of the villains who escapes winds up back in his life again, this time as a hired hand working for a rich man who is hungry for land that is not rightfully his. Austin comes to the aid of the family who is trying to hold on to their ranch.

This is definitely a shoot-em-up western and has some violent moments and though there is some bloodshed it is not gratuitous. This intense western tells a pretty good story but parents should consult the content listing below.

We award our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal to this western and remember to watch out for the bad guys.
