Mr. Magoriums Wonder Emporium

Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman) is the awkward and insecure manager of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, the strangest, most fantastic, most wonderful toy store in the world. But when Mr. Magorium, a 243-year-old eccentric (Dustin Hoffman), bequeaths the store to her, a dark and ominous change begins to take over the once remarkable Emporium.

Dove Review

“Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium” is a wonder indeed! This original story by writer/director Zach Helm is one of the most imaginative fantasies I have seen on the big screen in years. The message is fresh and the cast play their parts with commitment and excellence all around. I wish there was a toy store like this in my neighborhood.

Two main themes keet emerging in the film. One is a call to believe in your abilities and to use your imagination whenever you can. The other is a little more serious. You see, the film opens with Mr. Magorium telling his assistant that it is time for him to leave. When she doesn’t understand where he is going, he reveals that it is time for him to die. While this issue is not handled too lightly, it is not daunting either. The film does an excellent job of showing the audience that death is a part of life and that your greatest legacy is how you have affected others while you are here on earth. It is important to note that the subject is handled with great care and explained in simple terms.

“Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium” is a delightful film and we are pleased to award it our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal.

Mr. Magorium talks several times about his impending departure (read death). In one scene he says he is going to Heaven or Shangri-La; maybe he might even come back as a bumble bee. While there is a small reference here to "New Age" beliefs, the film does not explore these misconceptions any further.
