Ice Princess

Torn between her dreams and her mother’s plans, Casey Carlyle (Michelle Trachtenberg) makes herself a better figure skater using physics, which has led to the improvement of several top-notch skaters, in Disney's "Ice Princess." Carlyle is a geeky high-school student whose mother Joan (Joan Cusack) pushes her toward a college career at Harvard, but her passion is figure skating. A physics project takes her to an ice rink owned and managed by controversial former Olympian Tina Harwood (Kim Cattrall). Harwood’s daughter Gen (Hayden Panettiere) is one of the three elite skaters under her tutelage and rigorous training program. The hectic pace of skating, work and school takes a toll on Carlyle who is skating without her mother’s blessing. Over time, the geek evolves into a princess on ice who goes to the finals of a regional competition, but a victory may come at the cost of her relationship with her mother.

Dove Review

It has been awhile since any studio has released a live action G-rated movie. Thank you Disney for this wonderful movie. With no sex, language, or violence, this family-friendly film will delight the young and old alike. The plot is fairly straightforward as our lead character struggles with some common “fitting-in” issues such as mixing with a clique of ice skaters. These girls all come around and warm up to Casey while her mother realizes that Casey’s dream is to pursue a career on the ice and not at Harvard. This film features several moving scenes as everyone struggles to succeed and reach for their dreams. Dove highly recommends this family comedy/drama.
