Synopsis

Follow along with historian David Barton as he explores examples of Christians at the forefront of the American Revolution, a time when the church and its leaders played a vital role in achieving American independence. Several key religious figures contribute to Barton’s discussion, including the Rev. Dr. Jonathan Mayhew, Roger Sherman, and Charles Thomson.

Available individually or as part of The American Heritage Collection: Seven DVD Set, this DVD shows how Christians of the past set a precedent for today’s believers. The documentary also presents biblical guidelines for political involvement and ways to act upon your convictions.

Dove Review

This video should be a must-see for every history class in America: not just in Christian schools, but in all schools. The presentation is well-documented, researched, factual, and presented in a manner that’s totally objective. David Barton is seen standing in the sanctuary of a nameless church, with lovely stained glass windows, and as he speaks and holds up document after document and sermon after sermon, written by our founding fathers, the message is clear: the United States was founded on Christian principles, but no single denomination was intended to be “the one” for all. It is those very principles that are now at war with the ever-increasing secular society of the 21st century. These rock-solid principles are not being taught to our children and grandchildren, but are presented through another prism: history is being rewritten in our day and age! History is written through the prism of secular-humanism and presented without reference to God our Creator and never mentioning Jesus Christ.

I highly recommend this video for: history classes, Sunday school, families, groups of people and individuals needing an education on this information, or a fresh dose of exactly what, why, and how our great country was founded. As President Woodrow Wilson stated, a nation must remember where it came from. Our roots are based in the Bible. Thomas Jefferson wanted ministers to have the same rights to speak as others in the country. Narrator David Barton tells us that Presidents Lincoln, McKinley, Truman, Hoover and others stated we were founded as a Christian nation. How sad that a current book is titled, “The Godless Constitution”. Barton ends the program by urging evangelicals and believers to vote and to act on what they believe. We end this review by urging the readers to watch this DVD. It is easily Dove approved and we award this DVD five Doves. That’s our best rating.
