Synopsis

This romantic comedy is based on the popular YA (young adult) novel, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, by Dylan Sheldon. Lola (Lindsay Lohan) is a teenager living in New York City who aspires to become an actress. When she is forced to move to suburban New Jersey, she is faced with overcoming the competition at her new school. A rich, beautiful and popular girl named Carla Santini (Megan Fox), who is used to getting her way, impedes Lola’s quest to be the most popular girl. Lola tries to reach her goal by auditioning for the lead role in the school play. In an attempt to prove her clout to Lola, Carla gets some hard-to-come-by tickets to the farewell concert of Lola’s favorite rock band. Not to be outdone, Lola attempts to get the tickets, which brings a whole new set of problems in this battle for popularity. Also staring Adam Garcia, Alison Pill and Glenne Headly.

Dove Review

This film has a positive theme: You don’t have to be popular to be happy; just be yourself. Lola does not let obstacles get in her way, but her determination also involves stealing, lying and breaking rules. To get what she wants, she persuades her new friends to go along with her shady plans. The teen girls wear tight dresses, low-cut tops and hip-huggers that appear to be on the verge of falling off. There is a weak moral message that drinking is wrong, but no real consequences are shown. Dove cautiously approves this one and suggests that, as painful as it may be, parents watch it with their teens and discuss it afterwards.
