Recess: All Growed Down

For the first time on Disney DVD and video, see your favorite Recess kids as kindergartners! Discover how the gang met, with a look back at all your favorite characters when they first came to the Third Street School.

An overcrowded schoolyard forces T.J., Mikey, Gretchen, Vince, Spinelli and Gus to take their recess-time croquet game to the old abandoned playground, where they're swarmed upon and captured by the wild kindergartners and their new leader, Chief Stinky. To escape their clutches, the Recess kids relate tales of past bonding between the "big kids" and the kindergartners. T.J. begins by recalling a similar experience when he was captured on the old playground and was forced to return to his primitive kindergarten ways. Then Gretchen reminds the little savages of the group's avid participation in the Big Kid Buddy Program, in which each of the Recess gang mentored a kindergartner - and learned they were far more similar to the tykes than they thought.

Mikey recollects his redemption in training with a similarly overweight kindergartner for the annual Kindergartner Derby - and the life-long bond of friendship that developed between the two kids. But it's ultimately Gus that wins over the kindergartners - and surprises his beloved playground gang - by reaching beyond their short memories to reveal that he actually attended kindergarten with the group at Third Street School. Gus's tale of the gang's early days offer some startling revelations about his friends' personalities during their formative days on the playground - including Gus's own pioneering of the kindergartner's wild, "savage" tendencies, which resulted in his being thrown out of Third Street School (only to return for the fourth grade).

Dove Review

The “Recess” gang is at it again in full strength. They have put together six wonderful scenes in which we get to see what it was like for the gang when they were younger. The scenes are “Just a Regular School Day;” “The Legend of Bid Kid;” “Wild Child;” ” The Kindergarten Derby;” “Chief Mikey;” and “Hector New Chief.” Plus you will get some excellent bonus features like the fan’s 3 favorite episodes: “The Challenge,” “The Story of Whomps” and “One Stayed Clean.” The “Recess” series is wonderful viewing for kids of all ages. The messages are great. They are written well, and I believe kids can relate to this gang of friends a lot. I recommend that you add this DVD to your kid’s collection, because they will have hours of fun watching the antics of the “Recess” gang.
