Dove Review

The Saddle Club is a tween girl’s dream, combining friendship and adventure with the fine art of dressage. Assertive Stevie, daring Carole, and sweet Lisa are riding students at Pine Hollow Stables, who chance upon more than just dressage lessons. Whether it’s saving a drowning dog, starting a girl band, or solving a horse-theft crime, the gaggle of giggling girls stick together like icing on a birthday cupcake. But what would a tween show be without a cantankerous character? Meet Veronica, snooty and arrogant, ready to ruin any good time. She’s the first to criticize, last to socialize. Still the Saddle Club girls ride on.

This series of episodes incorporates beautiful Australian scenery to backdrop the handsome horseback shots, inviting us to ride along. Although there are some unrealistic situations and loose ends, the writers strategically sprinkle the episodes with interesting characters such as a reserved, mysterious French junior champion, for example. Each character gives the brave BFF brigade a chance to concoct plans that save the day. And the “cute” ranch hands accommodate a very light touch of boy awareness. Although it features girls, this fun and wholesome series could certainly hold the interest of boys as well and earns our Dove Approval for All Ages.
