“One Day” is a short film that is inspirational, nicely directed, and thought-provoking. It centers on a young man named John (Andrew Hurt) who gets up early one day, which appears to be a normal day for him, except that he has a doctor’s appointment—one which will be life-changing. He learns he has a cerebral aneurysm and has one day to live. The movie focuses on what he does with that one day he has remaining. He visits friends, his parents, his girlfriend, Emily (Stacey Bradshaw), and starts out on a final trip.

The film does a good job of portraying his initial anxiety over his impending death and his resolve to deal with it fittingly. He reads a verse from the Bible about redeeming the time, and the point is nicely made: it is important to use our time wisely. When he receives a phone text,”What did you do today?”, the priorities of life are driven home. The film involves the serious theme of facing death, and there is a scene of an accident in which a few people are hurt, but not badly. We are delighted to award this film, “One Day”, our Faith-Friendly Seal for ages 12-plus, although some parents may be fine with their children under the age of 12 watching this brief picture. This is a short but sweet movie. Five Doves all the way!
