“Ride Along 2” continues the story begun in the first film, with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart playing police officers James Payton and Ben Barber. Ben has just become an official police officer, on probation, and is engaged to James’ sister, Angela (Tika Sumpter). The story centers on James and Ben heading to Miami to try to crack a case James has been working on for a while involving a drug dealer named Pope (Benjamin Bratt) . Ben begs to “ride along” with James and James finally gives in. James does most of the real work with Ben providing comic relief. One such scene involves Ben saying he needs to “step up” and then climbing up and promptly being battered by the ceiling fan.
One nice scene features a lady pastor suggesting that prayers should be offered up for the newlywed couple she just performed the nuptials for. But, sadly, we could not award the first “Ride Along” movie our Dove Seal and, unfortunately, it is the same this time around. A lot of the comic moments that Ben provides involve using a lot of raunchy and harsh language. Regrettably, due to the language and strong sexual comments, we are unable to award this film our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal.
