Monica and David both have Down syndrome. Their life expectancy was only 25 years in 1983, but today it is 60 years. It is rare that people with intellectual disabilities get married. This film is about them.
Monica is a meticulously neat person: everything has a schedule and a certain place it belongs. Her biological father left her and her mother, which forced her mother to go back to work. Monica’s mother remarried, and she and her husband Bob raised Monica. He legally adopted her and was able to give her a beautiful wedding. When David was born, the doctor told his mother to give him up for adoption. She did not follow that advice and brought him home. Then his father also left his mother. David fell instantly in love with Monica. Their wedding is a beautiful display of their love for one another and the uniting of two families. They live with Monica’s mom and stepdad, Bob, after their marriage. Their love for one another is so innocent and beautiful. After their marriage, Monica experiences a lot of anger about her birth father and writes him a letter to help her deal with the pain. She never hears from her Dad after sending him the letter. David is diagnosed with diabetes after they get married and is not without challenges. As they strive toward their independence, David and Monica’s parents struggle to let go of them. This movie is for the whole family to enjoy, shed tears, and laugh. It receives the Dove Family Approved Seal for all ages.
