“The Samuel Morris Story” is an intriguing, animated biography of a young man who meets God and can’t tell enough people about his Heavenly Father. The story takes place in Liberia, Africa, in 1883. Known as Kaboo, the son of a tribal chief, he and his people are oppressed by another tribe. Kaboo is being whipped, but when he is tied up and about to be executed, a flash of light occurs and his ropes drop off. He also hears a voice telling him to run. Once safe, he winds up being invited to church and hearing the story of Saul, who met Jesus in a flash of light and heard his voice. Kaboo’s friend Afram confirms the voice and Kaboo’s freedom to the people in church. Kaboo becomes a Christian and changes his name to Samuel Morris, after the man who made it possible for the missionary, Miss Knolls, to come to Africa.
Samuel touches a lot of lives and feels called by God to travel to New York. He wants to learn from a missionary named Stephen Merrit and then return to his home to share the gospel. Samuel even ministers to the captain of the ship that takes him to New York and leads him to Christ. Once in New York, Samuel continues to be an instrument of God. His path takes a different turn than he planned, but the number of lives he helps change with the good news of the gospel is amazing.
