“The Borrowed Christmas” is unique, heartwarming, wholesome, and inspirational! Starring Jeff Rose as John Dale and Sherry Morris as Anne Weston, it begins with Dale entering Anne’s shop that features a sign stating, “We rent anything.” He asks if he can “rent” a Christmas, or “borrow” one. He wants five kids, a wife, a tree and a Christmas to be remembered.
Anne goes to work right away, enlisting the help of local actors. However, they wind up bailing on her due to sickness and a few other things. Anne’s helper at the store, Jimmy, offers to play the oldest boy in the make-believe family. Soon Anne wrangles together several kids from the local orphanage who are only too happy to be in a home setting for Christmas. Anne winds up playing the wife and mother, Mrs. Dale. John Dale is extremely pleased when Christmas Eve and Christmas Day arrive. He loves the energy of the children and their joy in the presents they receive. He is touched when Anne gives him a photograph of his boyhood home. His parents had both died as a result of an automobile accident.
It soon becomes obvious that everyone, including the two servant ladies, are enjoying this “family” setting in Dale’s home. A few tears are shed as the children begin to head back to the orphanage following their glorious Christmas Day experience. One young girl says, “I don’t want to go back. I want to stay with my new daddy.” Now it would seem that Dale has a decision to make. Is there any way to turn this play into a reality?
We are more than pleased to award “Borrowed Christmas” our “Faith-Friendly” Seal for all ages. It features themes of love, devotion, and the importance of every family member. This is a movie you will be glad you watched!
