Dove Review

“Cinderella” is the magical and beloved tale of a beautiful waif who lives with two selfish stepsisters and a cunning stepmother. Kindhearted Cinderella is forced to wait on everyone day after day. She is expected to clean, cook and sew with no respite in sight. Sleeping in front of the fire each night when her stepmother gives her bedroom to the stepsisters, she dreams of a life much different from her own. Not far from Cinderella’s home, the king and queen begin to search for a mate for their son, the prince. They fear for the future of their kingdom when he refuses to consider any of the young ladies from the surrounding kingdoms. He has decided he must be in love with his future princess or remain single forever.

Then an announcement is made! A ball in the prince’s honor will be held and all are invited. Hope springs in Cinderella’s heart when she overhears her stepsisters making plans to attend. She pleads with her stepmother to allow her to go and, reluctantly, she agrees if Cinderella completes a seemingly impossible list of tasks before it is time to leave. Disappointed, Cinderella finds she cannot be a part of this special evening when trickery prevents her from going at the last moment.

Cinderella’s fairy godmother appears after they are gone, transforming her dress magically into the most beautiful gown. She sends her to the ball with a warning to leave before midnight or the magic will be gone. Cinderella captivates the prince and he is heartbroken when she must flee, leaving one of her glass slippers behind. Determined to find her, he begins the search for his one true love with only a tiny slipper in hand.

This enchanting version of a classic has all the elements of a heartwarming story. Kindness, true love, beautiful music, and plenty of princess sparkle are woven throughout this film. The stepsisters are cantankerous, rude and unkind, but Cinderella responds with kindness and forgiveness even while her heart is breaking. Families will enjoy sharing this timeless story and we are delighted to award the Dove Family Approved Seal for viewers of all ages.
