The Thanksgiving Treasure

11-year-old Addie Mills is of the opinion that the purpose of Thanksgiving is to turn an enemy into a friend--just as the Pilgrims and the Indians did back in 1620. Addie hopes to mend the long-entrenched differences between her father and a cranky, lonely old man who lives down the road a piece.

Dove Review

This is a heartwarming holiday classic based on the books by Gail Rock. It is the touching Thanksgiving story original called “The Holiday Treasure”. Lisa Lucas, Jason Robards and the late Mildred Natwick star in this made-for-TV show that aired in the 70s. The setting is a small town in Nebraska in the late 40s where the grandmother, father and young daughter lived. It portrays the human kindness for others which is shown during a different period of time.

Addie has a heart of gold and always tries to help when she can. After hearing a poem about the holiday that was created by the pilgrims, she wants to invite her father’s enemy to the holiday feast at her house. As she tries to mend the differences between her father and the old gentleman down the road, the accomplishment does not get done for Thanksgiving so she decides to take the dinner to the old man herself. And the friendship grows, making Addie and Mr. Wrenguist good friends until the end.

We award “The Thanksgiving Treasure” our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for ages 12+.
