Heaven is for Real

Based on the #1 New York Times best-selling book of the same name, HEAVEN IS FOR REAL brings to the screen the true story of a small-town father who must find the courage and conviction to share his son’s extraordinary, life-changing experience with the world.

The film stars Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® award winning actor Greg Kinnear as Todd Burpo and co-stars Kelly Reilly as Sonja Burpo, the real-life couple whose son Colton (newcomer Connor Corum) claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. Colton recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-of-fact about things that happened before his birth... things he couldn't possibly know. Todd and his family are then challenged to examine the meaning from this remarkable event.

Dove Review

In the Christian community and outside of it, there have always been many conversations surrounding the questions of whether “Heaven is for Real” or not. While many do believe, they are also told that they will never see it until they die. One communities’ faith and understanding become challenged by a 4 year old boy.

“Heaven is for Real” is based on the true story of Reverend Todd Burpo and his family. Their young son has always been aware of the faith of the family and when Colton is taken ill, he is rushed to the hospital. There the Burpo’s find out that their son is in need of an operation. During the surgery Colton experiences a wonderful glance of Heaven and a visit with Jesus. So when young Colton begins to talk about his journey, the Burpos and everyone around the boy find themselves questioning whether his experience is true or the fabrication of an overactive imagination.

This movie will be the cause a lot of debate in both the religious world and also with to those who do not believe in an eternal place called Heaven. It is an entertaining film but not intended for very young children as it will likely not keep their attention for long. We are proud to award this charming and inspiring film the Dove “Faith-Friendly” Seal for all Ages. “Heaven is for Real” is a thought provoking look at a communities’ reaction to a supernatural event.
