Families Everywhere Deserve A Choice!

Thanks to The Dove Foundation, parents can
identify entertainment that is safe for family viewing

Who's Who List
This "Who's Who" section contains a list of all Dove Foundation Board Members, Advisors, and Staff Members.  Check them out and see what these respected leaders are saying about us.

The Background . . .

From 1933 to 1968, most films produced for theatrical release were the equivalent of a G-rating. Since 1968, over 60% of the movies Hollywood has produced for theatrical release have been R-rated. However, statistics prove that good, G and PG-rated films are often the big money-makers, especially with the addition of the home video market.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) rating system does not guarantee that the content of a movie will be acceptable for family viewing. Ratings don't protect our children from exposure to movies that glorify and encourage negative behavior. "Unrated" videos (movies released prior to 1968, or movies made specifically for video release) comprise about 50% of the selections in an average video store. They can include everything from Bambi to the director's cut of Basic Instinct.

Parents are eagerly seeking high quality, wholesome entertainment options for their families. Moms and dads are concerned about the gratuitous sex, violence and anti-family values that their children are exposed to at the movie theaters and on their own VCRs. Until now, there has not been a reliable indicator to identify movies that are safe for family viewing.

The Foundation . . .

THE DOVE FOUNDATION is a non-profit organization established to encourage and promote the creation, production and distribution of wholesome family entertainment. The Foundation, free from commercial pressures, awards a blue and white Dove Seal to any movie or video that is rated "family-friendly" by its film review board.

Entertainer and Dove advisor, Steve Allen called the Dove Seal, "the Good Housekeeping Seal for Family Entertainment."

Business, civic, religious and pro-family leaders nationwide have expressed support for the Dove Foundation and its seal of approval. They share Dove's concern for preserving the values of today's children, who will become the business, civic, religious and pro-family leaders of tomorrow.

The Dove Foundation is working with the entertainment industry to help them identify and serve people who are eager to watch high quality, wholesome movies. The Dove Seal makes it easy for customers to identify titles that are safe for family viewing. Consumers are casting their votes for "family-friendly" movies by choosing titles that display the Dove Seal.

The Progressive Goals

sealLocate good, morally sound feature films and videos and mark them with the Dove Family-Approved Seal.

sealSelect certain high quality PG, PG-13 and R-rated films, and recommend their release in Family-Edited versions.

sealRally enough consumer support to encourage filmmakers to produce more wholesome Family-Scripted movies.

The Process...

The Dove Seal

The Dove Foundation review board is made up of parents who have been trained to evaluate each film or video based upon Judeo-Christian ethics.

Once a film is approved, the producer/distributor is permitted to use the Dove Seal in all promotion and advertising copy, including the video packaging. This serves as a clear signal to consumers everywhere that the film or video is appropriate for family viewing. To date, Dove has approved over 4,500 movie and videos.

The Support

The Dove Foundation is a non-profit, publicly supported organization as described in the IRS Code, Section 501(c)(3). Donations, which are the life-blood of the foundation, are tax-deductible. Your donation shows that you care about decent values in entertainment. It enables Dove to stay in the fight and lobby Hollywood filmmakers to produce more wholesome forms of entertainment for your family to enjoy.

The Call To Action

We encourage like-minded people to contact their:

Family and friends - to stand with us in support of more "family-friendly" entertainment choices.

Civic groups, schools, churches, synagogues - to invite Dove Foundation Chairman, Dick Rolfe, to speak on "Hollywood's Impact on Family Values."

More Programs . . .

Dove Family Film Festivals

To help meet the pent up demand for family entertainment, The Dove Foundation is hosting Family Film Festivals in various cities around the country.

A Dove Family Film Festivals is a community wide event highlighting one Dove-approved movie each week for several weeks at a local theater. Children 12 and under get in free. Adults pay a small token admission.

These Festivals provide an opportunity for families to send a message to Hollywood that they want more wholesome entertainment.

Contact The Dove Foundation for a list of cities holding Dove Family Film Festivals.

Children's Hospital Dove Movie Channel

Much of daytime network television is not appropriate for young children, especially hospitalized kids with nothing to do all day long between treatments, therapies and surgeries.

The goal of the Children's Hospital Dove Movie Channel is to provide Dove-approved movies to hospitalized children.

The movies are shown over a designated channel on patients' TV sets.

This program is absolutely free to the hospitals and their patients, thanks to the generosity of many corporate sponsors.

Call or e-mail for information about sponsoring the Dove Movie Channel in a children's hospital near you.
