Grand Rapids, MI – The Dove Foundation salutes New Line
Home Video for releasing a family-edited version of “The Mask,” starring Jim
Carrey.
There is a large untapped audience for toned-down versions
of some PG-13 and even R-rated major theatrical releases that Hollywood has so
far ignored. Dove Foundation president and CEO, Dick Rolfe said, “This has
been a long time coming, but we’re grateful that New Line Home Video stepped
up to the plate with a family friendly version of ‘The Mask.’”
“New Line Home Video is excited about the opportunity to
provide consumers
For years, the major airlines have required that explicit
sexual and violent content as well as obscene language be stricken from PG-13
and R-rated movies before they show them to their passengers, who range widely
in age and taste.
Several attempts in the past to set up for-profit
companies who wished to distribute family-edited videos were met with failure.
“The studios already have their own channels of distribution and were not
likely to add a new link to the already meager profit chain,” declared Rolfe.
“Our nonprofit status does not complicate the process. We merely come
alongside and award the movie a Dove Family-Edited Seal without cost if it
passes muster.”
“I want to encourage everyone to run to the nearest
video store and rent or buy a copy of the Dove Family-Edited Version of “The
Mask.” If enough people respond, New Line will offer many more titles, and so
will the rest of Hollywood,” concluded Rolfe.
