The Dove Foundation
Announces New Television Pilot By Dick Rolfe, CEO - The Dove
Foundation
We are excited to announce that The Dove Foundation will produce
a nationally televised entertainment show focusing on movie, DVD and video game
reviews. This is an opportunity to increase Dove’s exposure from 200,000
visitors who come to www.dove.org
each month looking for the latest information on which movies are appropriate,
to a potential audience of over 45 million households. The pilot will be aired
on several national Christian television networks and streamed on key
faith-based websites.
Zondervan, the world’s leading Christian communications company, will sponsor
the pilot episode. Zondervan is a natural partner, since their mission and the
markets they serve are compatible with Dove.
We’ve been considering a television version of our website for years, but never
had the interest of distributors. I was recently contacted by executives of
several Christian networks looking for a television program that will take the
guess work out of the movie-going experience. That started the ball rolling.
Our goal is to make a high-quality program where the co-hosts, who are parents,
can talk to other parents about their entertainment choices; essentially a faith
and family version of ‘At the Movies.’ |

The show’s pilot is currently unnamed. It will be co-hosted by Grand Rapids natives, Rachael Ruiz, a news anchor
and reporter with WOOD-TV, a local NBC affiliate station, and Brian Burch,
senior associate with Lambert, Edwards & Associates, a Michigan public relations
firm. The two will discuss current, theatrical and DVD releases, using The Dove
Foundation guidelines as review criteria. |

Derek Emerson, also from Grand Rapids and a part-time actor and model, is the
show’s third host. He will review current videogames across all gaming platforms
and new media technologies.
Filming the pilot begins in late August and will be broadcast nationally in
mid-October. (Pilots are single shows used to sell a series idea to a television
network. If a network likes the pilot, it could lead to further episodes.)

Since 1991, Dove has publicly acknowledged motion picture storytelling that
exemplifies positive and uplifting values with its familiar blue and white Dove
FAMILY APPROVED Seal. The Foundation review board awarded its Seal to 36 feature
films representing a wide variety of genres during 2008.
Our goal is to encourage the entertainment industry to create, produce and
distribute a greater proportion of movies that are appropriate for family
viewing; and to see the public better equipped to identify family-friendly
movies and more deeply committed to support them. |
