Synopsis:
Fifteen-year-old Patrick doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, and the pressure put on him by his dad isn't helping. But then he meets a misunderstood horse trainer who convinces him to train for the Derby Cup. Can Patrick convince his parents to let him compete, beat out the rich town bully- and find the champion that lies with in?

Patrick is a young boy just beginning to enter adulthood and he is longing for his father's approval and he does all he can to get it. Patrick finds a friend in Houston who is the town drunk. Patrick looks past his faults and finds a kind caring person in which he can talk to and who in return understands him. In their growing friendship Patrick and Houston help each other to become better people, Houston gives up drinking and helps Patrick establish a healthy relationship with his father.
Patrick is a good role model and stands up for what is right, even confronting other kids who think that it's okay to bully and do destructive things.
The film was filled with good lessons and friendship. The acting was a little weak but was good enough to get the job done. The theme of the film is a good one-persistence pays off.
