Review: In rock-musical form, the story of a poor girl who rises to First Lady of Argentina. The recipient of the greatest hype since the 1974 flop, The Great Gatsby, Evita is just as unsatisfying. It has the look of a glossy MTV video, the loudness of a Metallica concert and the charm of both. Madonna is game, but lacks the depth needed to make the role of a self-serving opportunist sympathetic. The productions lacks spirit. It's loud and often tedious.
Vid. Alt. My Fair Lady, with Rex Harrison and the soulful Audrey Hepburn.
