Phil Boatwright is the Editor and Vice-President of Central Christian Publications, publishers of THE MOVIE REPORTER. He formed this family film guide in 1988.
He is a syndicated film reviewer for such publications as The Christian Single, Living with Teenagers, St. Louis Metro Voice and other periodicals across the country.
Phil has acted in 12 films made for the church market (including award winning THE PROSECUTOR and A SURE FOUNDATION), several commercials, and has appeared on such programs as Dynasty, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, and The Golden Girls. Before becoming a full time reviewer Phil appeared as Walter Simmons on NBC's daytime soap GENERATIONS.
For over a year he worked for a Christian production company, Vision House Films, as assistant to the producer, and helped put together six 1-hour film on the subject of "STRESS". He supplied the voice of David in We Win Toys "David & Goliath", and recorded the children's album "}Humpty," a dramatic musical adaptation of the animated film, heading the cast as Humpty.
He works closely with churches in presenting quality TV and theatrical program for Chistians and local communities, and has appeared in plays and one man shows he has both written and produced.
Besides writing a column for several Christian newspapers across the country Phil has a syndicated radio show focusing on film reviews from a Christian's perspective.
With his father he organized CHRISTIAN TV NEWS, a helpful guide spotlighting programming on the Christian TV networks, which he edited for five years.
Phil teaches seminars on how Christians can have a positive influence on Hollywood.
Phil formed The Movie Reporter not to debase or promote any newly released film, but merely to give the readers the content of each film (the reason for the rating), thereby helping film-goers decide for themselves whether the movie is suitable for their family's viewing. As an alternative to an expensive and frustrating evening at the movie theater, Phil (a lifelong movie buff) presents suggested home videos for each member of the family as well at inspirational films available at Christian bookstores.
He is the author of the book, HOW TO CHOOSE A GOOD VIDEO EVERY TIME, containing articles on Hollywood's influence, addresses of the networks and film studios and over 500 films now on video.
